PhotoblogsMagazine.org a new coat of varnish (march 20, 2006) Photoblogs.orgView My ProfileWeekly Shot - Photography Contest and Group Photoblog©eggplantwmayo

I love the way things look when they are wet, especially wood and rock. I do some occasional woodworking (furniture building & cabinet making) just for our own purposes around the house. My favorite step is applying the varnish, when the wood looks wet and glossy, and the grain becomes exaggerated with voluptuous curves, and all the "imperfections" of the flesh become highlighted, transformed into beauty marks in the amber spotlight created by the honey-thick varnish.
When the city is wet like this, the same effect takes place; it is so vibrant and I feel sometimes that I am walking through a miniature model of the world, built by a master carpenter with such an eye for detail, color, texture... who added an extra coat of varnish that makes everything look so fresh, so clean, so new.
