One of our favorite things to do in San Francisco is to just walk around through the various neighborhoods, checking out the local businesses and shops and markets, and they are certainly in abundance. Having been raised on the east coast (but now living in the mid-west), I'm amazed at the age of the neighborhoods in San Francisco. I grew up sort of thinking of California as the new frontier, and now living among the newness of the midwest, it's really cool to see these old shops, like Vivian's - an old fashioned beauty shop. This whole place was like a throwback to my childhood, and it's refreshing to see all of these mom & pop businesses.
