I was in the café having a cup of coffee with my wife and daughter while taking some photos of this antique scale yesterday, and at that very moment this guy enters my composition to pick up a newspaper. I really like it when stuff like this happens, unplanned. I shot this at 1600 ISO, and I kind of like the grain and the blown out whites that come with increasing the contrast on this light deficient frame. There's another dimension that exists in the underexposed world: this is probably not an accurate representation of this man, and the scale certainly does not look like this to the naked eye; but at this moment, through this lens, at this coffee shop, these objects reflected this exact representation of light into my machine. Seeing is all about light. Perceiving is all about the quality of that light. Light is a gift that helps us to complicate our reality. |
