Mark Twain allegedly once said, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." We took an almost wintry walk along the beach at the end of Golden Gate Park one day. Actually, I prefer this type of beach setting to the crowded sunny-summer-surfer sort of thing. Who is that in the top shot, you ask? C'est moi, taken by my daughter without my knowledge. We switched cameras for a while, and I was shooting a roll of Tri-X on her Nikon FM2, while she messed around with my Rebel. Ah, the sound and feel of the shutter, the mechanical purr of the film advance, and the pleasure of manual focus was a joyous reverie. We'll be going to the darkroom soon to make prints, and I'm greatly looking forward to that, as well. |
